About the Position

Methodical’s Financial Controller is responsible for managing the financial operations of the business and reporting to the COO. This includes tasks such as preparing financial statements, managing the budget, analyzing financial data, and implementing financial policies and procedures. The financial controller is also responsible for analyzing market trends, identifying areas for cost savings, and developing strategies to improve the financial performance of the business. Additionally, the financial controller is responsible for managing the accounting team, coordinating with other departments, and providing financial guidance to the business owners and management team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Participate in the day to day accounting procedures such as coding accounts payable invoices and bank transactions to the correct general ledger accounts
  • Prepare journal entries for entry into the general ledger system by collecting necessary data and ensure proper support is maintained for the journal entries
  • Improve the monthly close process by reducing the amount of time needed to close the books and prepare the financial statements
  • Prepare the necessary account reconciliations and underlying schedules for the primary general ledger accounts
  • Assist with the monthly accrual process including, but not limited to, working with other departments to estimate unbilled liabilities
  • Researching any accounting issues for compliance with GAAP
  • Assist with P&L and Balance Sheet balance trend analyses; evaluate and thoroughly document variance explanations
  • Improve the individual P&L’s for each business line; specifically each individual shop
  • Work with managers to create department budgets and review budget vs actuals on a monthly basis
  • Research and establish bonus structure for shops & roaster
  • Create cash flow analysis spreadsheet and update on a weekly basis
  • Research and implement a global inventory system for Methodical Roaster and The Shops

About the Role

This role is a General Manager (GM) level. General Managers oversee entire departments and they are accountable for the performance of the department and the development of its people.

Leading its People

  • Oversee recruitment and training of new department employees
  • Oversee the process of employee professional development
  • Shape the work environment through recognition, reward, discipline, conflict resolution, and termination
  • Direct the employee assessment process
  • Ensure employees follows necessary regulations

Operating & Organizing

  • Oversee the department’s day-to-day operations
  • Evaluate and identify areas of improvement and efficiencies
  • Set policies and processes and ensure they’re followed
  • Maintain department budgets
  • Oversee the overall financial performance, primarily payroll and costs

Strategizing

  • Meet the demands of growth by identifying needs before they’re needed 
  • Work with leadership to develop goals and path to meeting goals
  • Work with and collaborate with other GMs
  • Identify new opportunities and oversee their R&D 
  • Above all else, do their part in achieving the goal of excellent customer experiences

About You

  • Master’s degree in accounting or equivalent
  • 5+ years experience as a finance manager
  • Effective communicator both written and oral
  • Well-organized and self motivated
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong listener, collaborator, and can easily hone in on best solutions
  • Experience with auditing and compliance
  • Proficient in accounting software
