Las Perlitas is made from several smallholder lots that are similar in quality and growing conditions. Their differences, though, make for just enough nuance to lend to a complexly fruity cup profile. This coffee gives us a raspberry, fig, and clementine fruit salad—as deliciously tart as it is syrupy and ripe.

Where is it from?

The coffee-growing region of Huila, Colombia, has its fair share of large working coffee farms. However, it’s not uncommon for smallholders (that’s the term for small, single-family farms) to produce lots that aren’t quite large enough for exportation. To stay in the value chain and maintain their space in the market, smallholders will often be bought up by an importer (like the ones we work with) and blended with similar lots from the same region. That’s exactly the case with this coffee, Las Perlitas Huila—a mass of similar quality lots from the Huila region whose farms grow Caturra and Pink Bourbon varietals. The municipalities represented in this coffee are Pitalito, Acevedo, and Palestina.
