The Ruvumbu washing station is where many of Rwanda’s smallholder coffee process their crop. Nestled in Rwanda’s hilly lakeside district Nyamasheke, farms benefit from high altitudes, regular rainfall, and volcanic soil. These conditions are ideal for growing coffee, and the coffees from the Ruvumbu washing station are award-winning - they won the 2014 Rwanda Cup of Excellence and a Presidential Award. After being processed, 100% of Ruvumbu’s combined smallholder crops are milled and exported by The Rwanda Trading Company.

Where it's from

Through Methodical’s ongoing relationship with the importing heirs at Balzac Bros, we were introduced to the Ruvumbu’s crop. We roast this coffee to showcase its inherent sweetness and round body.  In the cup, we find golden raisin, apricot, and brown sugar.

Bright surprise!

I decided to order three bags of coffee last week to be stocked up for the stay-at-home season...and decided to add a bag of this new one right at the last minute. With the "new" badge and no reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect--and I am SO glad I found this gem! Wow. What a bright surprise. Absolutely delicious.

Complex and just bright enough

This coffee is delicious and complex, but not too intense on acidity, which is nice if your stomach can be sensitive like mine. I can confirm it's tasty iced too. I used a Chemex and used 19.5 grams for 304 grams of water. Lovely packaging with the shipment on top of it all.
