Yup, we spelled that right, Laayyoo is a coffee from Uraga, Guji, Ethiopia. It's named after an indigenous tree that is common in this region. Ethiopia is known for its fruit forward coffee and this one is no different. This is a naturally processed coffee where the fruit is left to dry on the bean which imparts dramatic flavors. Sounds delicious, right? Without a hint of bitterness, this coffee doesn't need any help from cream and sugar, but best enjoyed black brewed on your favorite pour over method or even in your coffee pot.

Where it's from

"Quality, traceability, and sustainability" are important values to Ture Waji, aka, "The King of Guji." Ture runs Sookoo Coffee, a washing station in Uraga, Guji, Ethiopia. Ture started Sookoo Coffee and built his first washing station in 2018. Ture grew up in the area and has a strong connection to the community and farmers. Between harvests, Ture and his team educate farmers on good agricultural practices, provide pre-harvest loans to farmers who need it, they've built schools for the children, and employ a "woman-first" policy to cultivate equality in this male dominated profession. To say that Ture is investing in his community would be an understatement. We're thankful for this level of traceability for this coffee. And we're thankful to be able to offer this coffee from Ture and the community of farmers in Uraga.
