Around 340 smallholder farmers live around the Biloya washing station in Kochere. In the iconic red soil, these garden farmers grow varieties of coffee that are local to the region. The size of their farms range from .5 to 2 hectares, though some are as large as 10 hectares. But the sum is greater than the parts. That's why Biloya exists in the middle of this coffee rich area. It's a place for the farmers to bring their crop, have it processed, and sold collectively.

As coffee is harvested, it's brought to the Biloya washing station to be hand sorted and assessed for quality. The station processes both natural and washed processed coffee. And once the optimal moisture level is reached, the coffees are bagged and moved to the next phase of their journey in the capital city of Addis Ababa. Here the coffee is again assessed, sorted, and cleaned and moved to containers for its long journey to our warehouse and eventually to you.
