Our Gathaithi roast helps this coffee show its true colors. As a washed coffee, it’s already got a leg up when it comes to clarity and true-to-nature flavors. All we did was gently nudge it in the direction of a sweet, detailed cup, serving up citrusy acidity, mellowed out by red currant and melon.
Where is it from?
Harvesting coffee is always tough work – even more so when it’s done by careful hand selection. In the Gathaithi subregion of Nyeri, Kenya, farmers handpick perfectly ripe coffee cherries at harvest time, delivering them on the very same day to the Gathaithi wet mill.
The mill is part of a larger group, the Gathaithi Farmers Cooperative Society, whose factory has 1,656 members with farms cropping from September to January and again from April to July. The coffee they harvest and sort at the mill is fermented overnight after pulping to breakdown the sugars. Then, it’s cleaned, soaked, and dried on raised beds.
