Ruarai means “place of rocks,” which refers to the very rock-filled Ruarai River that flows alongside the Ruarai coffee mill. This coffee is sourced from The Ruthaka Farmers’ Cooperative Society, a group of around 600 smallholder farmers harvesting approximately 280 tons of coffee cherry per year. In Nyeri County, the coffee trees are located at the foot of Mt. Kenya, and grow in rich, red volcanic soil.
