Where is it from?

Kanzu is a coffee washing station in Rwanda’s Western province. Coffee grown by nearby farmers are harvested from March through July and brought to the Kanzu station to be processed. Once the fruit is removed, the coffee is dry fermented for 16-18 hours before the remaining mucilage is removed. Then the coffee completes its processing journey by drying in the sun on raised beds.

Very few coffee-producing countries have received the kind of focused aid that Rwanda has seen since the end of the genocide in 1994. The Rwandese coffee industry was the focus of a series of collaborative development projects designed to rebuild the agricultural sector, mainly coffee and cassava, after the devastation of genocide and civil war. By building washing stations, forming co-ops, and training agronomists and quality control personnel, the programs helped to elevate Rwandese coffee to new heights, giving farmers access to specialty coffee markets and prices. We're excited to offer this coffee to you and help support this vibrant coffee community.
