Whether you’re a local or just visiting, we highly recommend these coffee shops and their corresponding menu options. We’ve got a few suggestions listed per shop, but we always recommend asking a barista what they’d suggest as well.
1. Estate Coffee Company

If minimalism is your vibe, you’ll love Estate Coffee Company. With a chill atmosphere, their cafe is the perfect place to hang out with a friend or if you’ve got work to do. If you want excitement and complexity, you’ll find it in their coffee. Using meticulous roasting methods, Estate Coffee Company creates wonderfully delicious coffees that deliver on flavor time after time. We recommend getting the full experience by ordering a pour-over coffee.
2. Indy Coffee Club

If you like a little Americana with your coffee, Indy Coffee Club is the spot for you. Part espresso bar, part clothing retailer, part lifestyle brand, Indy is kind of the whole package. Folks from all over come to enjoy their delicious beverages and shop their eclectic wares. You can’t go wrong with any of their espresso beverages, though we recommend starting with a cappuccino and pairing it with their popular avocado toast.
3. Local Coffee Founders
Robby and Neesha, the founders of Local Coffee Founders, began their business in 2009 and pioneered the specialty coffee scene in San Antonio. Once Local Coffee grew into a bustling coffee roasting business with multiple retail locations, they sold all but the Pearl coffee shop so they could continue doing what they love–serving their community with great coffee.
The atmosphere of Local Coffee Founders is fun, creative, and energetic as they serve up sustainably sourced coffee. Order a latte, hot or iced, with a shot of house-made Mexican vanilla, and enjoy a pastry made by Bakery Lorraine while you’re at it.
4. Merit Coffee

The folks at Merit Coffee roast and serve their own proprietary coffee at each of their five cafe locations throughout San Antonio. They’re always working on cool new drink ideas, like Cereal Milk Cold Brew or Yuzu Espresso Fizz, so be sure to check out the current specials when you visit. We’d be remiss, however, not to suggest ordering whatever they’ve got brewing for the day. As a sustainable coffee roaster committed to producing the finest quality coffee, Merit Coffee pulls no punches when it comes to a standard cup of coffee.
5. Theory Coffee
Theory Coffee isn’t your traditional coffee shop. First of all, it’s a coffee trailer nestled in the bones of an abandoned Texaco gas station (lovingly dubbed the “Flavor Corner”). A handful of artisanal picnic tables surround the trailer to create an open-air cafe environment that couldn’t feel cozier if it had four walls. The Theory Coffee menu is simple yet deliciously sophisticated. As far as we’re concerned, you can’t go wrong with their oat milk latte. Don’t forget to grab a breakfast taco from the food truck next door if you swing by during the morning rush!
